Medical images require extreme care when embedding additional information to protect the copyright and authenticate them because any slight tampering may lead to wrong diagnosis. This paper proposes a blind digital multi-watermarking algorithm to ensure ownership and authentication of medical images by incorporating one robust watermark for the copyright protection and two fragile watermarks to verify authenticity. The robust watermark can withstand intentional and non-intentional distortions and attacks, while the fragile watermark can be decoded with Arnold chaotic map and fractional Fourier transform (FRFT).
Watermarking is an effective way to secure content. However, a trade-off exists between watermark strength and image deterioration. In this study, we conducted an experiment on multiple modality images to determine the correlation among watermark strength, image deterioration and image processing. We found that watermarks embedded with a very weak strength could not be recognized or detected after image processing, while those embedded with stronger strengths suffered significant deterioration in the host signal.
MRFO-DTCWT-SVD is a time-efficient multi-parameter watermarking scheme that adaptively determines the multiple embedding strength based on the local characteristics of the host signal for optimal performance. The algorithm can handle various geometric attacks, including shearing, rotation, translation and affine transformation, and has good detection performance in noisy environments.
